Market Manager: Savage Community Farmers Market

Position Overview:

Located in Southeastern Howard County, Savage is a vibrant historic mill town. In 2024, community residents founded a new farmers market on Baldwin Common, a beautiful County park in the center of the walkable neighborhood. The Committee overseeing the Savage Community Farmers Market is seeking a Market Manager for the 2025 season. The Market takes place from 4-7 pm on Wednesdays from May 28 to September 24, 2025. This part-time, seasonal position runs during the Market season (with possible off-season duties), requiring up to 10 hours per week. The total contracted hours for the season will not exceed 220 hours.

Responsibilities:

  • Market Operations:

    • Prepare the market site and coordinate set-up with vendors, food trucks and volunteers.

    • Orient community partners and buskers to their locations.

    • Assist with vendor issues and ensure smooth market operation.

    • Document any issues to convey to the committee.

    • Oversee market teardown with volunteer help and ensure the market site is clean. 

  • Vendor & Customer Engagement:

    • Ensure vendors are supported and resolve any issues that arise.

    • Oversee vendors, food trucks and community partners to ensure compliance with ordinances and market rules.

    • Administer a friendly, safe, healthy,and orderly market environment.

    • Record customer counts each hour and respond to market-related inquiries.

  • Volunteer Management:

    • Manage volunteers for set-up, Information Booth staffing, and market breakdown.

  • Market Reporting & Communication:

    • Submit weekly reports to the Committee on market operations, customer feedback, vendor issues, and sales.

    • Collaborate with the Committee on social media and promotional efforts.
       

Required Qualifications:
  • Experience in market management, event coordination, or related fields.

  • Passion for local food and community-building.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

  • Friendly yet assertive demeanor.

  • Ability to work independently and solve problems effectively.

  • Comfortable with Google Drive and basic data entry.
     

Compensation & Hours:

  • Compensation: $20 per hour

  • Total Hours: 220 hours for the season (including off-season tasks in early May and October)

  • Schedule: Flexible, with up to 10 hours per week during the market season.
