Inclement Weather Policy

The Savage Farmers Market is a rain or shine market. We have made a commitment to our customers to be open the days and hours we have published, and our vendors have worked many long hours and traveled distances to serve their customers. Our loyal customers reciprocate by coming prepared with their raincoats and umbrellas to shop and enjoy the Market!

Inclement weather is a part of summer afternoons in Maryland. If thunderstorms, a tornado warning/watch, or severe and consistent rain occurs prior to the opening of the Market and there is reason to believe the threat will persist through most of the Market hours, the Market may be canceled. A decision to cancel a Market will be made by 11 am on Market day and communicated via email and text message to that day’s vendors and the rest of the committee.

If inclement weather conditions (including heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning) develop after the Market has opened, customers, vendors and volunteers may decide to seek shelter in their vehicles or to depart early.

If NOAA/the National Weather Service issues a Severe Thunderstorm/Tornado/Hurricane Warning with an alert to Seek Shelter immediately, customers, vendors and volunteers are expected to move to a safe place until the weather has passed. For such events, the place of shelter can be a vehicle, and the Market Manager will open the basement of Carroll Baldwin Hall. Once the weather has passed, a determination will be made about resuming normal Market operations for the remainder of the Market day.

Any changes to the market schedule will be announced on social media.
